Optimize the logic of the operation of electronic systems to achieve the type of performance that best suits the circumstances. With the touch of a finger you can choose the car’s character: docile and prudent (All weather), and balanced performance (Natural) or snappy and aggressive (Dynamic). This is the 2008 Alfa DNA selector function on board Alfa Romeo 4C, the same device is completely redesigned to meet the needs of a highly sporty supercar.

So the three existing configurations will add a new mode: Alfa Race.

Alfa Race
is the setting of extreme driving, which is inserted by placing the selector in Dynamic mode and hold it for a few seconds. Perfect for use on the track when you need to have absolute control of the car: Alfa Race limited to the minimum intervention of the electronic systems, leaving the initiative to the pilot.

In this case, the stability control ESC remains inactive and is limited to prevent an imbalance in the braking more intense. The ASR does not intervene nor the power, nor on the brakes, so that the traction is handled exclusively through the accelerator pedal. However, it remains active Alfa Q2 differential, which is essential to maximize the speed out of the corners.

Dynamic
This mode prepares the car with great driving performance: The engine adopts a specific

calibration to respond immediately to accelerator inputs, while the Alfa TCT activates a program of quick gear that reduces shift times up to 25%. The ESC allows the pilot to a certain angle of skidding and is limited to only intervene when analyzing the steering wheel position and yaw angle, the car is in a situation of potential danger.

Natural
configuration designed for use everyday: the management of gear changes is geared to the comfort and eliminates any vibration graft. In manual mode the gearbox Alfa TCT prevents the distractions of the pilot with the Auto-Up moves to higher gear when the RPM reaches near the limiter, with the Auto-Down inserts the lower gear when the engine drops below 1,000 rpm. Finally, the Alfa Q2 differential works in a soft and intervenes only when one of the rear wheels loses traction so obvious.

All weather
Da activate when the weather conditions are adverse to make driving safer.

All weather mode gives the car a very soft response to the accelerator. In particular: the device ASR adopts a specific logic for the management of brakes and engine and, in the event of loss of grip, the power is calibrated based on the speed of the car in order to prevent skidding that would be difficult to control.

ALFA TCT

tctIt is not only the power to set the level of performance of the Alfa Romeo 4C, in order to manage the ideas of the engine you need a transmission system evolved. So the car is equipped with the 6-speed gearbox with Alfa TCT twin dry clutch, a solution that combines the immediacy of the sequential and the convenience of the automatic. It is a system that works as two gearboxes in parallel, each with its own clutch, where the engagement of the next gear occurs while the previous one is still inserted, eliminating the voids dispensing.

The Alfa TCT has been modified ad hoc to board the Alfa Romeo 4C. In this particular version of the software for the management of change is completely new and guarantees maximum speed in the selection of the report, in all conditions. In most sports mode shifting is more aggressive and you hear a slight setback due to the junction with the new gear as in racing cars. In turn, however, the gears are followed in the sweetest way possible so as not to affect the stability of the vehicle.

4C has also been introduced on the Launch Control system for the management of standing starts. Depressing the brake and the accelerator at the same time the way down and pressing the paddle to the left of the steering wheel control unit activates the Launch Control: when you release the brake, the system works well change, traction control and power in order to maximize the ‘ acceleration.

SCAVENGING

scavengingOn board the Alfa Romeo 4C Scavenging technology maximizes torque at very low revs, ensuring greater responsiveness to the demands of pilota.Tecnicamente, the control unit defines precisely the angle and timing of valve overlap, allowing it to generate a flow of air directed from the intake manifold to the exhaust. This improves both the inflow chamber washing, increasing the efficiency of combustion, both the speed of the turbine, by decreasing the phenomena of turbo-lag.

TURBOCHARGER

turbocompressoreIn association Scavenging technology, the engine is equipped with a new generation turbocharger, with the exhaust manifold type Pulse Converter which optimizes the exploitation of the pressure waves to increase the torque at low speeds. Both the collector, both the turbine are made of cast steel in order to operate at very high temperatures (over 1000 °): an indispensable condition to reduce power consumption during highway driving at medium or high. Another useful element to the efficiency of the engine is the wastegate valve, which controls the pressure of the second turbo different logics depending on the setting vehicle dynamic, limiting pumping losses.

AFTER-RUN PUMP

Like all super sports cars, 4C uses a cool-down automatically to protect the turbine. Normally off the engine causes the immediate arrest of the circulation of the oil that is found to stagnate in ducts with very high temperatures, the thermal stress does lose its lubricating ability of the oil and leads to the formation of residues that are likely to damage the engine. To avoid this phenomenon

has been introduced Pump After-Run, an electric pump controlled by the control unit that keeps the movement in the turbo automatically completing the cooling process.
